There are many types of settings of diamonds that you might be confused as to which one you should select. Bezel setting of engagement rings is much loved by people because of its unique features. Also the half bezel setting is equally good and is selected by many. Here is a comparison of the full bezel setting and half bezel setting of diamonds.
Full Bezel Setting
In full bezel setting of diamonds, the stone doesn’t have any heads or prongs. The diamond is surrounded by a solid wall of gold or platinum. The thickness of this wall depends on the ring size. This wall of gold gives a tight hold on the diamond. The top lip of the bezel is folded over the diamond thereby covering all the edges of the stone. This outer wall of gold thus protects the centre stone from breaking or chipping at the edges. This also prevents the stone from getting caught on clothes or hair.
Thus the bezel setting is of great advantage and is modern looking, clean, elegant and also protective.
Half Bezel Setting
The half bezel setting is almost similar to the bezel setting. The only difference is that the gold wall around the diamond is not full in the half bezel setting. The bezel wall folds on the stone only at two ends and the other ends remain open.
Comparison: Both full bezel and half bezel engagement rings are of high demand. But the half bezel setting is preferable to the full bezel while considering the pros and cons.
The half bezel setting has the following advantages:
- More light can enter the diamond and so it sparkles more.
- The diamond looks larger because the edges are still visible.
- Cleaning underneath the diamond is easy in this setting.
These advantages are unique to the half bezel setting and are not found in the full bezel setting. In full bezel setting the bezel surrounding the stone fully, gives it a smaller appearance (sometimes 20% smaller). Also the light entry is less in full bezel compared to the half bezel setting and hence the sparkle will be less for the diamond. Though there are chances for the uncovered edges of the half bezel set diamond to break, the other advantages of larger appearance and added brilliance and sparkle makes it better than the full bezel set.
A half bezel engagement ring can give you a classy look and make you the centre of attraction in a crowd of people.
